Since 2012, Elos Foundation has been actively involved in working together with Instituto Elos Brazil in spreading the work across Europe. Constantly fed by changemakers and social entrepreneurs participating in training programs in Brazil, the amount of skilled facilitators and initiaves keeps increasing. The Elos Foundation, in collaboration with the Dutch oasis community and the Spanish GSAMadrid group, has been at the base of various projects in new countries, setting up exchange projects and organizing gatherings that bring together the European network.
In the last two years this has lead to collaborative programs between 4 to 5 European countries where projects on a local level are executed, under an inter-local program supported by the European Union. The network is building new tools and experiences based on the philosophy, principles and tools of the Elos philosophy, amongst others, for community-based action learning for universities and the development of new tools for participatory and process-oriented youthwork.
Oasis trainings in Europe
One of the first collaborative project was between Elos Foundation, GSA Madrid (www.gsamadrid.net/) and Instituto Elos in organizing the Oasis training in England that was hosted by Lush cosmetics.
After that, various programs followed over the years where trained people supported eachother in realization of trainings or community projects, such as a the Oasis training Barcelona, a youth exchange in Montenegro, bringing together youth from over 10 countries of Europe, the first Oasis Game in Dortmund, Germany co-facilitated by a German, Dutch and Spanish facilitator and the realization of a youth exchange, bringing youth from villages and rural settings from Spain and Holland together to work on community-building in the Spanish town of Zarzalejo.
European collaborative projects
With support of the local activities, and the increasing amount of warriors across Europe in 2014 and 2015, international gatherings have been organized to bring together practitioners across Europe. European gatherings have connected practitioners giving space to sharing experiences and building collaborative projects. Two European projects that have been propelled during the gatherings include the CEAL-network and the GODEEP project.
The Community-based Entrepreneurship Action-Learning Network (CEAL-network www.ceal-network.org) is a partnership between 6 organizations in 5 countries, who with the support of the European Union, are developing and testing an education program where youth from communities and universities learn together to set up community-based projects with a socio-economic dimension. Through the realization of an actual community projects during the program, youngsters acquire entrepreneurial skills and experiences.
